Lauren Smith, born on September 26, 1991 in Carlisle, Cumbria, England, is a professional English badminton player.
She first started playing badminton at age 7, initially practicing with her family at a local club. In April 2009, Smith represented England at the European Junior Badminton Championships in Milan. The English team won bronze in the team event, while she and Ben Stawski claimed mixed doubles bronze after losing to Dutch pair Jacco Arends/Selena Piek in straight games (6-21, 14-21). Her first international title came at the 2011 Portugal International, where she won women’s doubles with Alexandra Langley, defeating teammates Helen Davies/Alyssa Lim 2-1 (14-21, 21-14, 21-17). At the 2017 European Championships in Kolding, Denmark, Smith and Sarah Walker reached the women’s doubles semifinals, losing to second seeds Gabriela and Stefani Stoeva of Bulgaria (15-21, 15-21) to claim bronze. In June 2018, she partnered with Marcus Ellis to win the Canada Open mixed doubles title, defeating second seeds Mark Lamsfuss/Isabel Herttrich of Germany 2-1 (19-21, 21-18, 22-20).
