2023 Kumamoto Japan Badminton Masters: China Dominates with Three Golds Secured Before Finals

The 2023 Kumamoto Japan Badminton Masters concluded on the evening of the 18th, with the Chinese national team delivering an outstanding performance. All Chinese semifinalists (excluding internal matches) advanced to the finals, securing three gold medals ahead of schedule.

Men’s and Women’s Singles:


– In the women’s singles semifinal, Chen Yufei defeated An Se-young 2:1 (21-18, 20-22, 21-8) to advance to the final. An Se-young had not lost since July, with her last defeat also coming against Chen Yufei, who remains the only women’s singles player to defeat An Se-young three times this year.

– Liu Yuchen/Ou Xuanyi staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Malaysian pair Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi 2:1 (16-21, 22-20, 21-16). After trailing 19-16 in the second set, they turned the match around and dominated the third set to secure victory. They will join their teammates in the final, ensuring China wins the men’s doubles title.



Women’s Doubles:


– The women’s doubles team maintained stability, with Zhang Shuxian/Zheng Yu winning 2:0 (21-12, 21-15) against Rena Miyaura/Ayako Sakuramoto, and Liu Shengshu/Tan Ning defeating Matsumoto Mayu/Nagahara Wakana 2:0 (21-16, 23-21). China has already secured the women’s doubles championship.



Mixed Doubles:


– Both Chinese pairs advanced with narrow 2:1 victories. Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong overcame Seo Seung-jae/Chae Yu-jung (20-22, 23-21, 21-13), while Feng Yanzhe/Huang Dongping defeated Watanabe Yuta/Higashino Arisa (18-21, 21-15, 24-22). China has locked in the mixed doubles title.
