Marin Climbs to World No.5 in BWF Rankings After Denmark Open Performances

In the Denmark Open, Carolina Marin defeated Tai Tzu-ying in the quarterfinals and overpowered P.V. Sindhu in the semifinals. Her latest ranking will see her replace last year’s Denmark Open champion He Bingjiao, ascending to world No.5.

The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has released the updated world rankings, with the top four women’s singles players remaining unchanged. Marin, who reached the finals yesterday, has risen to world No.5. The top four women’s singles players are still An Se-young, Akane Yamaguchi, Chen Yufei, and Tai Tzu-ying. Chen Yufei, who secured her second title of the season at the Denmark Open, saw her points increase from 94,796 to 96,446, widening the gap with Tai Tzu-ying.

Marin’s victories over Tai Tzu-ying in the quarterfinals and Sindhu in the semifinals have propelled her to world No.5, displacing last year’s champion He Bingjiao. Sindhu, who reached the semifinals, also gained in the rankings, moving up two spots from No.12 to re-enter the world top 10.
