Axelsen Advances Hard-fought to Quarterfinals, Set to Face Jonatan Christie

Viktor Axelsen battled through a tough match to secure his spot in the quarterfinals, where he will next face Indonesian star Jonatan Christie for a place in the men’s singles semifinals.
In the men’s singles round of 16 at the Super 500 Japan Masters, Danish world number one Axelsen staged a comeback against Malaysian rising star Ng Tze Yong, winning 20-22, 21-11, 21-18. Axelsen, facing the world No. 15 Ng, had only one previous encounter, which ended in Ng’s favor.


The first game was a closely contested battle, with Axelsen missing key opportunities and conceding the set. He leveled the match decisively in the second game, forcing a decider.


The third game remained tightly contested, with Ng leading 11-9 at the technical timeout. Axelsen demonstrated resilience, overturning the deficit in the latter half. At 18-18, Axelsen showcased superior skill, clinching three consecutive points to win the 65-minute three-set thriller.
