Okuhare Hoping Loses Luggage, Suffers Early Exit at French Open

Japanese women’s singles player Nozomi Okuhare revealed that all her luggage was lost during her journey from Denmark to France. The former world champion made this disclosure after her straight-games defeat (14-21, 12-21) to Taiwan’s Pai Yu-po in the first round of the Super 750 French Badminton Open.

This marks Okuhare’s tenth first-round exit this season. Currently ranked 33rd globally, the former Japanese world number one faces diminishing prospects of qualifying for the Paris Olympics next year.

Despite the travel mishap and underwhelming performance, Okuhare maintained optimism, stating she continues to progress gradually. She concluded with: “See you at the next tournament!”

Okuhare’s next appearance will be at the Kumamoto Masters Super 500 in Japan, where she will face Indonesian contender Gregoria Mariska. While Okuhare leads their head-to-head record 3-1, Mariska claimed their most recent encounter at the Denmark Open in straight games.
